Inception Asset Management (Inception) is a Sydney-based, specialist wholesale investment manager with a private markets and alternative investment strategies focus, with a global perspective.
Inception was established to support the investment objectives of its founders and their close network of high net wealth investors and family offices. It is an investor first approach, enabling a more co-ordinated, targeted and influential approach to investing.

Brendan Foley – Founder and Investment Committee member
With over 30 years of experience across the world in professional services, technology and investment management as a serial entrepreneur, executive director and investor, Inception applies Brendan’s knowledge, experience, network, and resources to its portfolios. Brendan has a strong track record of actively assisting entrepreneurial CEO’s and their management teams both with finance as well as strategic advice.
Brendan co-founded the Select Asset Management Limited group (Select) in 2002. Select Fund Services provided responsible entity and trustee services to over 20 ASIC registered schemes with funds under administration of over A$900 million and Select Investment Partners managed and advised on funds totalling over A$700m by the time of Select’s sale to the ASX listed OneVue Holdings Limited in August 2014.
In 1995, prior to co-founding Select, Brendan co-founded a technology business in the UK, Inventure (later becoming Fenics Limited). In 1991 Brendan joined the Man Group PLC (Man) where he was respectively Treasurer of its Fund Management Division, Finance Director of its major subsidiary, Adam, Harding and Lueck (AHL), and, after Man’s IPO in 1994, a director of Man Investments Limited.
Brendan qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young where he worked for eight years in both South Africa and the United Kingdom. He holds Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Accounting degrees from the University of Witwatersrand, Johanneburg.
Pascal Julliard – Founder and Investment Committee member
Pascal has over 15 years’ relevant experience in the financial services industry. Most of this time has been with a boutique private wealth management business which was founded over 35 years ago, and serves high net worth families often with an entrepreneurial background.
Pascal is now Managing Director and leads the delivery of investment solutions for its clients, directly overseeing client portfolios. Pascal is an experienced investment professional, including having actively invested in private markets, and has developed a strong network of relationships across the asset management industry and business community.
Pascal holds a Bachelor of Economics (Economics and Finance) with Merit from UNSW and is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®). Pascal is also a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) and has participated in the Executive Summer School program at the London School of Economics.
David Yale – Founder and Investment Committee member
David has over 30 years’ experience in financial services, technology and investment management worldwide.
He co-founded Select in Australia in 2002 where he held the dual roles of Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer for Select Investment Partners. Select managed and advised on funds totalling over A$700 million, and provided responsible entity and trustee services with funds under administration of over A$900 million. Select was sold to the ASX listed OneVue Holdings Limited in August 2014.
In 1996, prior to Select, David established a business within CWB Plc which developed investment risk management solutions for investment banks. The business operated largely in the London – New York – Europe triangle and grew quickly across multiple offices, before being sold to Thales in 2001.
From 1991 David worked in the field of systematic trading as Head of Development for industry pioneer AHL which has one of the world’s longest running managed futures programs, then for Man after Man acquired AHL.
David holds a joint honours degree in Physics and Computer Science from Manchester University, UK, a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Markets) from Australian Financial Markets Association (AFMA), and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Thomas Good – Portfolio Manager, Private Debt Opportunities Fund
Thomas has been appointed by Inception as Portfolio Manager of the Private Debt Opportunities Fund (PDF) and as an Investment Committee member for PDF As a senior adviser to Inception, Thomas oversees the Investment Process including proposals for investments to be made by PDF (in coordination with other members of the Investment Committee); portfolio investment and risk monitoring and reporting; and general market intelligence.
Thomas has over 15 years’ experience in Investment Management. He began his career at Credit Suisse in Europe focussed on Multi-Asset portfolios with a subsequent role at a multi-family office. In 2008 Thomas worked with Quentin Ayers a leading Alternative Asset consultant in the domestic pension market which focused on Credit during the Financial Crisis including a successful restructuring of a stressed CLO.
From 2009 to 2012 Thomas worked as an Investment Manager in the Debt and Alternatives team at the Australian Government Future Fund – deploying large amounts of capital into attractive Credit markets following the GFC and during the Eurozone Debt Crisis.
More recently Thomas worked at Select in a senior consulting role in addition to providing Portfolio Management services advising on multi-asset investment strategies and Alternative Asset classes.
Thomas completed Level III CFA in 2009 and in addition to the UK Securities Institute Certificate has also completed an Honours Degree from the University of Queensland (2000) and a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology/Philosophy in 1998) from the University of Sydney.
Stephanie Williamson – Senior Research Analyst
Stephanie has worked in financial services for over 20 years having commenced at an insurance company in 1999. Stephanie joined Select in 2004 spending time in finance and operational roles before joining the investment team in 2006, where she gained experience across all global financial markets, asset management and multi-strategy investment management.
With her operational expertise she held major responsibilities in trading and investment implementation and actively worked alongside IT to create improved reporting and internal processes. As a Senior Investment Analyst her role enabled her to take part in investment strategy and manager research, largely across Equities and Alternative investment asset classes, including building investment models across the Closed End Fund universe and assisting in the construction of bespoke portfolio solutions for clients.
Select was sold to OneVue in 2014 where she stayed employed until early 2018. Stephanie has since shared her experience as a consultant to boutique asset managers and wealth management groups, sitting on Investment Committees as well as assisting with operational and reporting requirements, manager research, portfolio construction and investment strategy.
Stephanie has a Diploma of Business Management and a Bachelor of Business majoring in Finance from the University of Technology, Sydney.
Anthony Fleming – Compliance Committee member and Legal Adviser
Anthony Fleming is the Managing Partner of Launch | Financial Services Lawyers.
Anthony draws on over 30 years’ experience in financial services founded on his time as a financial services partner in the Sydney office of the (then) world’s largest International law firm Baker & McKenzie, and before that, at Australia’s leading law firm King Wood Mallesons (formerly Mallesons Stephen Jaques).
For more than a decade, Launch has built a strong reputation on sensible, understandable advice and on documents delivered by Anthony in a style which few lawyers manage but more than too many imitate.
Anthony’s strengths include an ability to make complex things surprisingly simple. He has a deep industry understanding and client empathy. Anthony’s approach is to develop lasting professional partnerships with sensible clients based on sensible costing matched to projects.
His client base is dominated by fund managers, which represent the full spectrum of the investment universe including fixed interest and equities, real property, alternatives, derivatives, hedge, distressed, private capital and VC, both listed and unlisted, local and offshore.
Anthony authored the industry standard managed funds prospectus and PDS, and the compliance plan which has become the de facto industry standard.
Patrick Bergin – Compliance Committee member
Patrick is an experienced Chartered Accountant with more than 20 years broad finance, operations and compliance exposure gained with large and boutique financial services organisations in Financial Controller, Head of Finance, Chief Financial Officer, Company Secretary and Director roles.
Extensive experience gained in funds management, fund administration and trustee services covering all aspects of back office operations including fund accounting and administration, financial control in funds management and trustee services, outsourcing functions, funds management compliance processes and managing teams.
Patrick has held roles at Deloitte, Chase Manhattan Bank, Macquarie Bank, Select, and more recently at Crestone Wealth Management Limited.
